All about Mount Verde...
In 2006 the shareholders of Mount Verde (Pty) Ltd decided to purchase several adjoining farms to form one large estate of approximately 2500 hectares boardering Pietermaritzburg and Hilton. Through close collaboration with agricultural advisors and the Department of Agriculture, a model was developed that would allow for intensification of the farming operation and afford investors the opportunity to own and develop their own 30 hectare farms under the guidance of the Estate management company.
Approximately 800 hectares of the estate is in the process of being rehabilitated to a concervancy game farming area and this area will allow for investors to own and partake in game farming activities as well as to live amongst the wildlife.
A decision was also made to secure the entire estate by means of electric fencing and cctv surveilance to ensure that the country lifestyle could be enjoyed to the fullest with the comfort of knowing that families living in the estate would be safe. Due to the extent of the estate, a decision was also made to tar by means of a chip and spray covering on all primary roads to ensure that the convenience of living in close proximity to an urban area is not lost.
The decision to create this unique farming estate in the Hilton area of the KZN Midlands was not taken lightly. Apart from offering some of the best farming conditions in the country, Mount Verde is strategically located to be close to some of the best schools in the country, including Hilton College, Michaelhouse, St Annes, Cowan House and numerous Pietermaritzburg Schools and the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
Various outdoor activities and sports are offered in the area and range from watersports on either the Midmar or Albert Falls dams to Canopy Tours in the Karkloof and world championship mountain biking events on the property. Three top class golf courses are in close proximity and the beach and Berg are less than an hours drive from the estate. The N3 highway is 3 kilometers from Mount Verde with the Oribi Airport just a 20 minute drive away.
The Vision is to create an estate in which owners enjoy a high level of security, the peace and tranquility of the midlands meander and the convenience of living next to the capital of KZN while farming their own 30ha farm in one of the highest potential agricultural areas in the country.
